Buckner Appointed to National Conference of State Legislatures Executive Committee

CHICAGO — State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), one of the organization’s highest leadership bodies, responsible for guiding its strategic direction, governance, and finances.

The Executive Committee is composed of 63 members, including legislators and legislative staff from across the country. It oversees NCSL’s operations and helps shape the organization’s work on behalf of America’s state legislatures.

Buckner, who serves as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Illinois House of Representatives, said the appointment reflects Illinois’ continued leadership in addressing the complex challenges facing states:

“It is an honor to join the NCSL Executive Committee and work alongside legislative leaders from across the country,” Buckner said. “State legislatures are where many of the nation’s most important policy challenges are being solved—from housing and transportation to workforce development and emerging technologies. I look forward to helping strengthen NCSL as a forum for bipartisan collaboration and sharing innovative ideas that improve the lives of people in every state.”

Founded in 1975, NCSL is a bipartisan organization serving legislators and legislative staff in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The organization provides research, technical assistance, and opportunities for state leaders to exchange ideas and develop solutions to common policy challenges.

Buckner has been an active leader within NCSL, participating in national discussions on transportation, college athletics, budgets, economic development, and the future of state government. His appointment to the Executive Committee further expands Illinois’ voice in shaping the organization’s priorities and advancing best practices for state legislatures nationwide.
