MACAU, November 6 - Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has climbed nearly 100 places from last year to rank 306th in the 2027 QS Asia University Rankings, announced by globally renowned higher education research organisation QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) on 3 November. The result marks a new high for the University and reflects continued progress in teaching quality, research and innovation, and internationalisation, as well as growing international recognition of its achievements.

MPU recorded improved scores across several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research publications and international networks. The gains reflect the University’s sustained efforts to strengthen its teaching and research, and its internationalisation strategy. MPU will continue to capitalise on the integration between Macao and Hengqin, as well as Macao’s role as a platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, actively advancing the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. By bringing together high-quality educational and research resources from around the world to create a “global campus”, the University aims to contribute to talent cultivation and scientific research in China and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

In recent years, MPU has made notable progress in several major international rankings, strengthening its academic profile both regionally and internationally. In 2026, the University debuted in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Its subject of Education was included in the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, while Linguistics and Computer Science and Information Systems entered the QS World University Rankings by Subject for the first time. MPU also received the International Strategy of the Year award at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia for the first time. These achievements reflect the University’s continued development of its academic disciplines, research and innovation, and international engagement.

The QS World University Rankings is an authoritative global ranking that evaluates universities based on various key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, graduate outcomes, research publications, and international networks. The 2027 QS Asia University Rankings analysed higher education institutions across 26 countries and regions in Asia, with 1,700 universities successfully making the list.
